This is a discussion on the recently concluded China’s Two Sessions on the CGTN program Dialogue.
The Two Sessions (两会, Liǎng Huì) is a major annual political event in China, referring to the simultaneous meetings of two key political bodies: the National People’s Congress (NPC, 全国人民代表大会) – China’s top legislative body, responsible for enacting laws, approving government budgets, and overseeing state institutions, and the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC, 中国人民政治协商会议) – A political advisory body composed of representatives from various sectors, including non-Communist parties, business leaders, academics, and ethnic groups that provides recommendations and policy advice.
The two sessions are important for China because they outline China’s national policies and economic, social, and military priorities for the year. The Premier’s Work Report provides insights into the country’s economic goals, such as GDP targets, employment rates, and key reforms. It often includes major political announcements, such as leadership changes, new laws, and foreign relations policies. It reflects the Chinese Communist Party’s long-term strategy, influencing global markets and geopolitics.
