South China Sea: Beijing condemns Manila’s unilateral move to demarcate maritime territories with new laws

Beijing has summoned the Philippine ambassador to China to lodge a stern protest over two Philippine laws demarcating territories in the South China Sea. China says the Philippine Maritime Zones Act and the Philippine Archipelagic Sea Lanes Act are attempts to “solidify the illegal 2016 arbitral ruling through domestic legislation.” Our reporter Zhou Jiaxin spoke with Filipino analyst Anna Malindog-Uy to understand Manila’s motivation and the impact of its move.
